IN THE FIELD Residency

IN THE FIELD is a Mentoring and Residency Program that pairs 5 filmmakers with 5 other professionals with expertise in other fields to enable hands-on and site-specific experience, collaborative process, and research-based practice. The main event happens for 8 days in Dalat City located in Central Vietnam where each pair works with one another to produce a short film (5-15 minutes) using their preconceived ideas and research about the city under close and intimate guidance and mentorship from a seasoned artist-filmmaker. For the course of a month from the selection up until the production, the participants have a chance to gain knowledge, information, and materials to best support their projects through a carefully designed series of public lectures, masterclass, subsidized field trips, resources from research partners and individual mentoring sessions. All 5 short films make up a consistent program featuring the creators' personal assessments of Dalat's both characteristics and settings and will be screened to Dalat's local residents on the last day of the event followed by discussions and conversations among the organizers, participants, and audience about the whole process.
