The Edge of Daybreak examines the devastating psychological landscape of a dysfunctional family as it falls from grace in the shadow of war.
1990s, Ploy is a rising movie star turned R-Rated movie actress receives a phone call concerning her estranged mother’s failed suicide attempt. At the hospital, mother and daughter reconcile the wounded past. On her mother’s final request, Ploy euthanizes Pailin.
1970s, somewhere in a remote country house, young Ploy chases after a cat and falls into a pound nearby, she awaits the homecomings of Pailin who returns from the sanatorium and Prasat, her absent and elusive military father who is away on a secretive business trip.
Pailin, on her daughter’s request, traces down the missing cat near the pound and encounters the injured animal, believed to be the sacred forest Spirit. She comforts the dying animal whose blood drains into the river and flows into town causing a mystical force. Pailin passes out in the woods.
Doctor Nakorn, the fiancée of Pailin’s deceased sister Nam, comes to heal mother and daughter. Pailin and the doctor consume a long suppressing romance. Later that night, the doctor’s disappearance occurs with the unexpected return of Prasat, Pailin’s husband. The husband and wife are forced to face the wounds of marriage, inner demons, uncompromising darkness and traumatic past.
