PURIN PICTURES ORGANIZES INAUGURAL ROUNDTABLE EVENT
June 18, 2019 - BANGKOK
Bangkok-based film fund Purin Pictures is organizing ROUNDTABLE, a film event that will take place in Bangkok from July 4-7, 2019. It is timed to coincide with the pre-existing Bangkok ASEAN Film Festival which is organized by the Ministry of Culture of Thailand and The National Federation of Motion Pictures and Contents Associations and is held from July 3-8. While the Festival will screen films, Roundtable will host Panels, Workshops, and Spotlights; the two events will complement each other and together offer a full spectrum of events focused on ASEAN cinema.
Highlights of Roundtable’s program include Spotlights on GDH, the film studio behind international blockbuster Bad Genius and Phuttipong Aroonpheng, the director of Manta Ray, which won the Orizzonte Award at the 2018 Venice Film Festival, a first for a Thai film. Workshops include the 48 Hour Film Challenge, Film Critics’ Circle, and The Role of the Producer. Panels cover topics ranging from SEA Documentaries to Producing First Features to Female Cinematographers. Mentors and speakers are respected filmmakers and industry leaders from Thailand and the ASEAN region.
“The objective of Roundtable is to build a bridge between Thai and ASEAN filmmakers, commercial and independent filmmakers, and experienced and new filmmakers. We hope to create a space where everyone can share, learn, and network with each other to build a stronger community. In this new venture, we are happy to partner with the Bangkok ASEAN Film Festival. Besides sharing a focus on ASEAN cinema, we can also learn from their experience in organizing an international event and reaching out to the right audiences,” says Purin Pictures director Aditya Assarat.
